No matter if your local track is a unknown 1/3 mile dirt track with seating for 600 or Talledega Super Speedway, supporting your local track is super important. Take it from me, a Riverside International Raceway AND Corona Raceway Refugee, they close down and break your heart, ever butt in a seat buying a pooch and Bud helps, plus honestly the little tracks might have the best racing you'll ever witness.

So to shed some light in this thread, tell us where and what is YOUR local track, doesn't have to be small, just your closest operating racetrack...it's winter so most tracks aren't hosting any racing right now but let's hear about them...

I live in Las Vegas, so naturally LVMS. I enjoy the Bullring, and am sorta sad it has not been made for Nr2003 while the big track, and many other short tracks have.

That's a great facility there with the drag strip, Bullring and LVMS, I'm gonna get over there in the next couple years hopefully..260 miles give or take...

My closest racetrack is Perris Speedway, 1/2 mile dirt and they actually have a Winter Season of racing.. I'm partial to the midgets myself.

My Dad used to take me and my little brother here back in the 1969-1974 era for midgets, sportsman, and showroom stock racing, great stuff little track but I'll never forget it. The track is now houses.

Yeah, while I get demolishing for more houses, I don't get needing more malls?!?! Does California not have enough malls.

I would like to see riverside in person. If only it was still around.

I'm amazed how many people have a deep love of Riverside, I belong to several FaceBook groups that are dedicated to keeping it alive. I got into sim racing thru "NASCAR Legends" because I wanted to drive the ole girl. I saw the 1970 races with the Torinos and Superbirds and Daytonas, it was quite the sight. Petty in the dirt most of time coming thru the Esses...but he won so it worked. It was a grand track, perhaps the grandest of tracks in the U.S. since it hosted every series and especially all the greatest series at their peak with the greatest drivers that ever drove race cars. I feel very, very fortunate to have seen them all.

I watch the videos of Kevin Lechmanski's new Assetto Corsa Riverside track and I'm spellbound. I'd have that sim just for that track, but there is much more. I do hope it can be converted to some other sims so that more car types and series can be run on this best and most accurate Riverside. It is the closest we'll ever get to racing there. I was fortunate to drive my old 1971 Datsun 510 around it for a few laps, but not racing. I'll never forget it.

Well it was a unique RC track, and it is a shame to see circuits with so much history be demolished for malls and stores because people of my generation are not vain and narcissistic enough. North Wilkesboro, Rockingham, Riverside, all gone :(

Well 2 of the still have a small glimmer of hope atleast.

At least I can continue racing at these tracks in video games. That is one good thing about racing sims is that we can have a chance to race on tracks that no longer exist.

Closest track to me nowadays is the Fairgrounds Speedway at Nashville. Went there earlier this spring for the ARCA and CRA late model doubleheader. It was a cold afternoon/night as I sat at towards the end of pit road, I wound up getting a little food poisoning from the chicken tenders, but I had a hell of a time seeing Donnie Wilson win the CRA exhibition and Josh Williams get his first ARCA win. But just the names I saw race that day was nice in itself; Stephen Wallace, Bubba Pollard, William Byron, Travis Braden, Cody Coughlin, Riley Herbst, Spencer Davis, Mason Mingus, Christopher Bell, Dalton Sargeant, John Wes Townley, and so on.

Yes you mention something that the small local tracks offer that the big tracks don't, these guys working their way up and some of the big name guys really are great to watch and they spend time with the fans, and just shoot the stuff after the races sometimes, it builds fanbase and gives us mortals something that builds a relationship and loyalty... Richard Petty knew that, hanging around for hours after races to shake a hand, sign an autograph. The biggest thing that turned me off about going to AutoClub and even to some point Ontario back in the day was the fences. Actually I thought Sonoma was the worst. And it's a roadie! Usually the atmosphere at road courses is a completely different one than that of an oval course, and the series really makes a difference too.

But watching the folks you hear about on the locals, up close and you really see the aggressiveness of the drivers, you can't beat that.

Nothing beats some good ol' short track racin' No PC BS, No stupid Playoffs, just pure racing. Shame more people don't understand the joys of local racing. When I was younger, my aunt and grandparents would take me to the Santa Fe Speedway when I went to hang with them. Local short tracks make some of the best family memories.

Yeah I grew up in the south. Florida, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and Nevada. The life of being raised in a military family, never stayed in one place for too long.

I feel stupid, but actually the closest track to me is actually AutoClub Speedway! AND then Orange Show Speedway. That goes to show you, you think of these places by experiences...my best experience at AutoClub even though I've been to the last several Cup races there, and they were all great, was a Historical Gathering on the infield roadie. It was so open I dragged my camp chair and cooler into a place where I could get right up behind a k-rail next to the track to shot pics. I could also turn around and walk a few steps and catch the cars coming thru a different turn...THAT was a great day. I could walk into the garages and touch the cars, talk to the drivers. Without paying crazy fees for a ticket.

1/4 mile asphalt
It's OK, but but never really grabbed me...what can I say...

100% agree, it's all about the experience, the air, the sounds the smells.
