can't disable "reflections on cars"

just installed on a new laptop and I can't turn off "reflections on cars"

only thing different is this install wasn't from the disc (no drive) but for years I've been able to turn it off as I choose (on far less capable computers)

any ideas?

It has nothing to do with the install. It has to be something with your video card drivers/software.

Look at this line in the player.ini file:

enable_CarMegaShader=1 ; set to 1 to enable advanced shaders where applicable

If it is set to 1 that check box will be disabled.

From reddit:

*Megashader & car shader options are undocumented features never optimized, unstable, shift shading & reflection off CPU onto GPU. If sim starts crashing randomly, these two options will be the culprits.

*Megacarshader on removes checkbox of reflections on cars, takes away sun reflection in windows.

*Megacarshader off, "Shadow Volumes" on.

*Megashader: If you check the "from structures" box, the rest of the shadows menu becomes live.

as it turns out, that's the right place but I needed "enable_CarMegaShader=0" and things are back to normal. compared to player.ini from my old computer. apparently I did a bit of tweaking in random places
